There Is No Sin In Hell

Sermon Transcription:

There is no sin in hell. Over the last years, there were a lot of times where I ended up observing things that really bothered me in the spirit, and I could see how deceived and how wrong it was. But it was really something of a journey that the Lord had to allow me to go through to end up at today with a word that is specifically geared towards this world. Yet this word is delivered into the world not necessarily by preachers or prophets. This word is delivered into the world through the body of Christ, through the believers. And as I mentioned briefly, this sound that I've heard in the world, I've even heard that sound come and be reflected and bounce around in what calls itself the church of Jesus Christ. I've seen, outside of the church, people really, in their own words and by their own definitions, "living it up," living to the fullest extent, doing everything they could possibly think of to do, calling it freedom—to the extent, in the extreme circumstances, where I've seen people celebrate hell, celebrate Satan, celebrate what they call freedom to do whatever they want.

I remember growing up and hearing an older lady in my life speaking. When we would see a house party somewhere, or a club partying the roof off, this older lady would tell me something along the lines of, "Now that's what hell will be like. That is very like hell." I've seen many demonic and, at times, satanic concerts today. Many even mainstream artists bring in all kinds of satanic rituals into their background presentations, and the dancers perform things you can literally read in the Bible were being done in the temples of idols—symbolism pointing directly to a celebration of the kind of actions, beliefs, and senses that Satan offers to people in this world. I've literally seen fans cheer for Lucifer and be excited about him, celebrating him directly or indirectly. I've seen people make statements like, "The biggest party will be in hell. We're going to party before Satan's throne. We're going to be sinning for eternity."

See, the devil is a very crafty liar, to such extent that he is far smarter than any of us, in intellectual capability, could ever claim. See, the devil himself had angels persuaded—angels who stood in the presence of Almighty God. They knew Him without flaw. And yet the devil was able to persuade perfect angels who knew God in perfection. He was able to persuade angels that he would be king, and they followed him. And nothing much has changed today. What the enemy seeks to convince the world of, and through the world even convince the church of, is that one day there is a place where he will be king. He has whole generations persuaded that the devil will be king in hell. "Yes, God won. There's no denying that. Even the devil doesn't deny that. But there will be a place called hell, and that will be our place." Church, you have to represent hell right in your generation if you're going to be the ones that carry the gospel into this generation. The gospel makes no sense if hell has not been represented right.

You have to represent hell right because there is no sin in hell. There's nothing the devil wants in hell. Nothing that the devil wants will be in hell. Nothing the sinner wants will be in hell. Jesus Himself spoke more on hell than any other person in Scripture. So most of what we know about hell actually came directly from the King of Kings Himself. I want to take you to a Scripture portion in Matthew 10, verse 27. That's where we will start. Jesus speaking. Watch what He says:

"What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear. Don't be afraid of those who want to kill your body. They cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can both destroy soul and body in hell." "What is the price of two sparrows? One copper coin. But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid. You are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows." What is Jesus saying? He says, "What I'm about to tell you, what I whisper to you, what I tell you in secret, shout abroad when the daybreak comes." And then He repeats Himself again in one sentence: "Shout from the housetops for all to hear."

See this incredible motivation in the heart of Jesus that He's trying to transport into the hearts of His followers. You, this is the kind of stuff you should be shouting about, is what He's saying. They're not feeling it. That's why He has to tell them, shout about this stuff. And He explains very briefly exactly what He wants them to be so passionate about. He says, "Fear God. Don't fear man. Don't fear the devil. Fear God, because people will end up in hell for destruction." Fear God, but don't be afraid. That's what He says: Fear God, don't be afraid. God has loved you, and you are incredibly valuable to Him. He gives a three-point message, so to speak: Fear God, not people, not man. People will end up in hell for destruction. But don't be afraid. You are of incredible value to the Father. See, hell is for destruction, Jesus says, of body and soul. It's a complete destruction, but it's also a never-ending destruction. It's an eternal destruction.

A question comes to mind: So, who goes to hell? Well, another thing that has bothered my spirit ever since the day that I got saved is sometimes, especially at funerals, the church has a way of making me feel like nobody's gone. I've been at funerals of people that I knew their walk. I knew the fruit of their life. And the service, as people would have said, was beautiful. No biblical way to say that there was fruit demonstration, evidence that someone had been filled with the Spirit of God. Therefore, we can know and rest in the knowledge that they have been saved and they will be with God and not be for destruction in hell. They didn't speak full of faith. They were kind of rude, kind of mean, kind of selfish. But they went to church. They were part of our denomination, whatever that means. I have a special disgust for preachers that have a way of making everyone feel like this person is probably in heaven when there is no evidence, no biblical evidence at all, that that person believed and surrendered their life into the hands of Christ for salvation's sake while they were still alive.

You cannot give a false peace to people, because what will happen is they also won't give their whole life to Jesus. It'll probably be fine. We'll go to—we'll do what they did. We'll go to church. We'll live our own life the other five, six days of the week. Well, we won't curse out loud. We'll try to not lie. We'll try to live a good life and go to church, and we'll probably make it too.

Who goes? John 3, verse 18–21. Let's let the Word speak for itself. Verse 18: "There is no judgment against anyone who believes in Him. But anyone who does not believe in Him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son." This is the person that believes that people who are not dedicated believers in Jesus, maybe they'll also go to heaven.

They don't believe in the one and only Son. They don't believe what God said Himself, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, that He said, "There's no one who comes to the Father but through Me." They don't believe that part.

It can't be that black and white. It can't be the one and only Son of the living God, the one and only way that people may be saved. Then how are people judged? Who goes? The one that doesn't believe. But how are people judged? Verse 19: "And the judgment is based on this fact: God's light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil." In other words, people loved to keep things secret about themselves because they did or thought evil things. They didn't openly talk about it. They didn't tell their spouse everything. They didn't walk in the light completely. They didn't testify about all the things they've done wrong this week because they keep a secret for fear of the fact that their actions are evil and not good. So how do you see who has believed and maybe makes mistakes still? Who has believed and has received forgiveness? Verse 20: "All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear that their sins will be exposed."

See, when a person has been transformed, that doesn't mean they don't make mistakes. When a person has been made new in Christ, that doesn't mean they are never dumb and use their freedom to do something that was really a mistake. And they really don't want to do those things, but in that moment they really did. People still make mistakes. We are never, in our expression of life, as perfect as Jesus. Even though we can be forgiven on the inside and made perfect on the inside, working it towards the outside is a process. The Bible calls it sanctification. That's a journey. For some, it's a longer journey than others. But how then are people judged? They are judged by the light. The Word says those that have evil actions and they would like to keep those evil actions, they create secrets. The Bible calls it darkness so they can keep their evil actions. And those who love the light come into the light. Verse 21: "But those who do what is right come into the light so others see that they are doing what God wants."

This doesn't mean that the person that is saved doesn't do wrong. It means they go the right way about it. They do wrong and they rejoice because they've been forgiven because of Jesus. So they can talk about their wrongs. They can talk about their mistakes. They can live in the light and not be judged. They can feel and experience that the judgment has already passed away from them because the blood of Christ has cleansed them from all sin. There's no reason to keep a secret. I'm already accepted. I'm already forgiven. I'm already washed. They are doing right. They have been changed. They have been washed. And nothing has to stay hidden because they are not under judgment. And church, that is an experience. You can sense it. You can feel it when the judgment is lifted off your life, and you are no longer going to be held guilty for sin. Everything changes. Everything changes. But the devil has the world believe that he is king, or that he will be king and lord in hell. I won't name people by name, but I've heard so many people with great influence, mainstream influence, whether it is the music industry, the movie industry, you name it, fully convinced, at peace that they know the truth. Talk about how Satan has power, how Satan is waiting for them, how Satan is going to share his throne with them, how it’s like there is a clear understanding in this world that Satan has a throne, that Satan has something to rule, that he has somewhat of a kingdom.

Church, never forget this: the devil will never be king. That's what Jesus made sure of. He had angels persuaded that he was going to be king, and a third of the angels followed him. Angels that have far superior intellectual capability than you and I. Angels that have seen God face to face already, beyond what you and I can know about the Lord. Angels were persuaded by the devil that even though they knew God, he had them persuaded that the devil would be king.

Church, be careful that your heart is not persuaded into thinking that the enemy will have anything to say in hell. He'll have nothing to say. It will be the worst place. I could never describe it to you and begin to touch the severity of hell. Every person that does not believe and does not give their life to Jesus cannot escape hell, the same way as the devil cannot escape hell. We'll see it in the Word, church. Hell is not a devilish party. Hell is not a painful place separated from God where the devil has the freedom to torture people or to play around with people. There is no sin in hell. Hell's a place of punishment, both for the devil and for those that reject Christ.

Matthew 25, start in verse 41: "Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, 'Away with you, you cursed ones, unto the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. For I was hungry and you did not feed me. I was thirsty and you did not give me a drink. I was a stranger and you did not invite me into your home. I was naked and you didn't give me clothing. I was sick and in prison and you didn't visit me.' Then they will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and not help you?' And He will answer, 'I tell you the truth, when you refuse to help the least of these, My brothers and sisters you were refusing to help me, and they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life." What does the Lord describe right here? He describes people that did not live their life for Jesus. Their life was not about serving others. Their life was not about living for the benefit of other people. Their life was about them.

Their life was about doing the right things towards God because they say, "God, like, when did I not see You and make it about You?" Their life was about them and getting, even from God, what they needed out of God for eternity. But their life was not being lived for the benefit of other people, for the service of other people. The righteous, the Word says, will go into eternal life, but these will go away into eternal punishment. Eternal punishment, church. Never a moment of joy. Think on that for a moment. Never a moment of joy eternally. Never a moment of satisfaction. There's temporal satisfaction in sin. There's temporal satisfaction here on earth through sin. When people sin, they can have a moment where they feel happy. They can have a moment where they feel a measure of satisfaction. They can have a moment of just forgetting stuff and numbing some negative emotions and making a bad day into what feels like a good day.

There is temporal satisfaction in sin, but you'll never taste it again because there won't be any sin in hell. There won't be any way to have satisfaction. There won't be any way to experience the emotion of joy ever again. Always hungry, starving for food, nothing to eat. Yet you'll remember food from earth. Always thirsty, nothing to drink. But you'll remember a glass of cold water for all of eternity while you're starving to death and never die. You'll remember every single time that God spoke to your heart or sent somebody into your life to remind you of a truth, or someone into your life who said nothing, but they put on your heart that they were more committed to Jesus than you are. And God was speaking to your heart, and all these things will flash back into your mind for eternity, but He's not there. There's no turning. There's no possibility to respond anymore.

You'll remember every single time you had a chance of repentance. Every single time you had a chance to turn to God, and it was within your grasp, and never again an opportunity. Always bored but nothing to do. Always in pain, but never relief. Always burning up in fire, yet you'll never die. You're already in hell. Church, every single person you know who does not believe with all of their heart on Jesus Christ, the only name through whom all men must be saved, they have no hope of escaping hell outside of Christ Jesus. You and I have no hope outside of the cross, without the truth. Every person you meet, unless they believe on Christ and place their life in His hands completely, there is no hope to escape hell. I'll read to you again in Matthew 10:27. Jesus speaking: "What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear."

Do you understand? Now, church, do you understand Jesus' heart? He's telling His disciples, "What I'm about to explain to you, you need to make sure that you communicate this clearly and loudly to every person in your life." Go tell everyone about the incredible place of torment and destruction that is waiting. Now, that place can be avoided through the love of God. Now, that place can be avoided through Christ Jesus. But it must, at all costs, be avoided. At all costs, people have to run through the only lifeline that God has thrown into this world. You see, the devil has been working for centuries to make the sound appear in this world that makes hell feel a little bit less dramatic than it is. And it makes the church, the people that have loved Jesus, less urgent to tell, less urgent to rescue people, to save people, to the extent where the enemy had even ingrained into the church something the church was preaching for hell. "Oh, we can't save anybody. God has to do it. I can't save anyone. God has to save you."

That's not what the Bible says. That's what hell wants the church to believe. Paul himself says that, "By all means possible I may save some." Church, when we get a proper perspective on hell again, we can begin to say with Paul again that, "By all means possible I may save some."

I may not be able to save 50. I may not be able to save 15. But by all means possible, in my lifetime, God has given me a glimpse. Jesus spoke more about hell than any other person. God decided to give me a glimpse of what needs to be avoided and can be avoided for anyone who turns to Him with all of their heart. Now that I know, my heart may say, "By any means possible, that I may save some." And Jesus says, "Shout from the rooftop." Shout into your neighborhood. Shout in your friend groups. Make sure they don't miss this. Make sure they know the kind of torment that is reserved for the devil, but it will be shared with those that do not grab a hold of the lifeline God has thrown into this world: Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

He continues: "Don't be afraid of those who want to kill your body."

People are going to seek your life, and it's going to feel like they want you gone when you begin to shout this stuff. He says, "They cannot touch your soul." "Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. What is the price of two sparrows? One copper coin.

But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. In other words, Jesus is saying, 'Aren't sparrows about the cheapest thing in the sparrow trade here on the market? They're about the cheapest thing. But your Father doesn't care that they are cheap. He still is mindful of every single one of them.' And then He likens the value of the sparrow to the hairs on our head. 'Then the very hairs on your head are all numbered just like the sparrows.'

He says, 'So don't be afraid. You are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.'

Now Jesus was going to really bring that message across when He was going to show us how valuable you are to God, how much God is willing to pay to purchase you and to bring you into freedom.

Isaiah 44, verse 22: 'I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist. Oh, return to Me, for I have paid the price to set you free.' A cry from God: "Oh, return to Me here in time. Return to Me. Return to My Word. Return to what I tell you to spend your life on. Return to Me with all of your challenges and difficulties and pains. I have paid the price to set you free." In other words, you are very valuable to your heavenly Father. You're so valuable to Me that I was willing to pay the highest price that has ever been paid in this universe." Church, believe on Jesus with all of your heart, all of your mind, and all of your strength. Your actions, your actions, let them be actions of belief. I believe Jesus is coming back soon. I believe Jesus spoke the truth about hell. I believe Jesus will provide His Spirit, His strength, His wisdom as we go about doing the Father's business. I believe these things, so I do them.

Believing in Jesus can be seen in your life, not to get saved, but because you are. Not to become forgiven, but because you are. Your words, let your words be words of a believer. Let them be believing words all the days of your life. When you talk about problems, when you talk about politics, when you talk about the news, when you talk about the future, when you talk about the past, let your words be the words of one who believes in the King. Church, become a believer with all that you are and tell the truth about hell as Jesus asked us to do. There is a place of indescribable torment created for destruction of body and soul, first and foremost for the devil and his angels. And secondly, for those who refuse to believe on the Jesus Christ explained to us by the Word of God.

Church, I pray that the eyes of your heart are able to see this morning. A glimpse, a glimpse of the severity of what is hanging over the heads of some of the people that you personally know.

I want you to understand that the devil has created a sound in this world that dumbs it down, that makes it feel less threatening, less bad, less concerning. In some extreme cases, almost even desirable. Church, it's our job to tell the truth. Jesus wrote that to you and I: "What I'm about to tell you in secret, what I'm about to whisper to you when you are at home in the place of prayer, shout it into the lives of people. Bring it into this generation." Give people a chance again to run to safety. See, the world has done a great job at prioritizing the safety of human life in many, many ways for the time being here on Earth. Just last year, we were in Astoria when there was a tsunami warning, and there are so many systems in place. You get notifications on your phone of people that I don't even know how they have my number, and there's a way, like, if you missed every news, you don't listen to the radio, they'll still get to you.

They are so concerned with building systems and getting things in place to make sure that people who are in a dangerous area know they're in a dangerous area, so that they have every reason to try and get to safety on time. And sometimes I can't help but feel that the church has kind of dropped the ball on that. That the church has preached so much about heaven and made it try to make heaven feel so good. But we can also only preach—I don't even dare to put a number on it—such a small portion of what heaven will be really like. We only know so much.

But Jesus talked so much about the danger, about the concern, so that people would know, "Okay, so if I need to, if I want to get to safety, where do I go?" And that's where He said, "Now, there I have good news for you. I've come to you. If you would believe on Me, I will take care of you. I will save you. I will give you life eternally. I will make a new earth, a new heaven.

You will be with Me where I am. You will know Me for eternity."

But there has to be a moment where people come to Jesus, abandoning all they have and saying: "Jesus, unless You save me, I'm not going to be saved. Unless You break me free, I'm not going to be free. Unless You change me, I'm not going to be changed. Unless You rescue me, I'm not going to be rescued. If I can't bring a thing with me—not just for eternity, if I can't bring a thing with me into this new life—that's okay with me, Jesus. As long as I have You, as long as I'm rescued." There has to be a moment of total surrender. I'm convinced of this. Very few people will come to that surrender if they don't know about hell. They don't know they're drowning. They don't know what's waiting for them. Church, change the sound in this world.

Lovingly tell the truth. God has made a way. He's paid the highest price because what is waiting is so terrible that even though we are exceedingly sinful, He doesn't want that for any of us. He has loved us. We have become so valuable unto Him, far more valuable than the sparrows, which He does care about.
